Google previously committed to three years of OS updates and five years of security updates for its Pixel 6, Pixel 7, and original Pixel Fold devices. Recently, the company announced an extension of OS support to five years for these devices, which now includes: – Pixel Fold – Pixel 7a – Pixel 7 Pro – Pixel 7 – Pixel 6a – Pixel 6 Pro – Pixel 6
However, the Pixel Tablet is not part of this update and will continue to follow the original plan of three years of OS updates and five years of security updates. Google has led the way among Android manufacturers by offering longer support, a trend that has since been adopted by other major brands. As a result of this new update, the Pixel 6 devices will receive Android 16 and Android 17, while the Pixel 7 and Pixel Fold will be upgraded to Android 18 by 2027.
It’s important to note that devices older than the Pixel 6, specifically those from series 1 to 5, will no longer receive Android or security updates. Meanwhile, the Pixel 8 and Pixel 9 families are promised seven years of updates unless Google decides to change its course again.
