Dal Lake is a significant freshwater body and one of the most sought-after tourist spots in the region. It ranks as the second-largest lake in Jammu and Kashmir and is often called the ‘jewel of Srinagar.’ The lake plays a crucial role in tourism and recreational activities while also supporting various commercial endeavors.
An Uber representative has stated that the company does not impose any fees on its shikara partners, ensuring that the entire fare is given directly to them. Uber Shikara rides are offered for an hour between 10 am and 5 pm and can accommodate up to four passengers from Shikara Ghat No. 16. Reservations for Uber Shikara can be made up to 15 days ahead of time, requiring at least 12 hours’ notice.
According to Prabhjeet Singh, president of Uber India and South Asia, “Uber Shikara is our humble attempt to fuse technology and tradition to provide travelers with a smooth shikara experience. We take pride in enhancing accessibility and promoting tourism amid Kashmir’s breathtaking landscapes.” Wali Mohammad Bhatt, president of the Shikara Owners Association, mentioned that there are approximately 4,000 shikaras operating in Dal Lake and hopes that Uber will bring on more shikara partners in the future.
