Srinagar, Nov 20 : Sakeena Masood, the Minister for Health and Medical Education, Social Welfare, and Education, convened a meeting today to evaluate the progress of the ongoing works at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Awantipora. During the meeting, the Minister conducted a thorough assessment of all project activities, discussing various aspects with relevant officials and agencies.
She reviewed both the physical and financial progress, along with the water supply situation, the construction of the approach road, and other related facilities. Attendees included the Secretary of Health and Medical Education, the Executive Director of AIIMS, the Deputy Commissioner of Pulwama, the Engineer in Chief of R&B, the Director of Finance H&ME, and chief engineers from several departments.
In her address, the Minister emphasized the current government’s commitment to providing exceptional medical care facilities for the residents of Jammu and Kashmir. “The health sector is our government’s top priority, and we are dedicated to building world-class healthcare infrastructure in J&K,” Sakeena stated. She pointed out that AIIMS Awantipora will be instrumental in delivering high-quality healthcare services to the Kashmir valley and nearby regions once it becomes operational.

She noted that the institute will serve as a beacon of hope for those in remote areas who have struggled to access adequate medical care. To ensure the prompt completion of the main hospital building and its associated structures, the Minister instructed the Deputy Commissioner of Pulwama to hold monthly review meetings and provide regular progress updates.
The Minister also urged the project execution team to mobilize additional personnel and equipment to expedite the work, recommending that they continue interior construction during the winter months. While discussing other project details, the Minister emphasized the need to complete the installation of tube wells and bore wells by March 2025 to guarantee a consistent water supply for the hospital and other facilities.
She stressed the importance of maintaining high-quality standards and adhering to deadlines. The Minister called on all stakeholders to prioritize the swift construction of the main building, asserting that no delays in project execution would be tolerated. She instructed all involved agencies to collaborate closely to ensure the project’s timely completion.
The Minister noted that the establishment of AIIMS Awantipora marks a significant advancement in regional healthcare, as it will enhance access to world-class medical services. Additionally, it is expected to create job opportunities, foster research, and enrich J&K’s healthcare landscape. Earlier, the Chief Engineer of CPWD updated the Minister on the project’s current status and related challenges through a PowerPoint presentation.
