Srinagar, Nov 19: In honor of World Heritage Week 2024, the Directorate of Archives, Archaeology, and Museums in J&K has launched a week-long exhibition focused on the theme ‘Rare Manuscripts and Books’ at the Art Gallery, Shergarhi Complex in Srinagar.
Running from November 19 to November 25, 2024, the exhibition presents an impressive assortment of rare manuscripts and books, showcasing the region’s rich cultural and literary heritage.
The opening ceremony was officiated by Vijay Kumar Bidhuri, the Divisional Commissioner (Div Com) of Kashmir, who praised the department’s dedication to safeguarding and promoting the area’s priceless heritage.

In his speech, he underscored the importance of rare manuscripts and books as valuable windows into the past, providing a glimpse into the region’s history, culture, and intellectual traditions.
The exhibition is organized by the Directorate of Archives, Archaeology and Museums, J&K, under the direction of Kuldeep Krishan Sidha, the Director of Archives, Archaeology and Museums, J&K.
After the inaugural event, a Heritage Walk was conducted from the Shergarhi Complex to the SPS Museum in Srinagar. This event, initiated by the Divisional Commissioner, drew enthusiastic participation from heritage lovers, scholars, and students from various schools, celebrating Srinagar’s historic sites and rich cultural heritage.
This initiative plays a vital role in raising awareness about the importance of heritage conservation and preservation while providing the public a unique chance to engage with the treasures of J&K’s archival and literary history.
Additionally, all heritage enthusiasts and members of the public are warmly invited to delve into the magnificent past of UT J&K during the World Heritage Week, running from November 19 to November 25, 2024.
