Srinagar, Nov. 5: Farooq Abdullah, president of the National Conference (NC), paid a visit to the SMHS Hospital here on Monday to inquire about the health of those hurt in the grenade attack at a flea market in the city center the day before.
According to a party spokesperson, Abdullah asked hospital officials to make sure they had all the medical resources they needed for a speedy recovery. Abdullah was accompanied by Hasnain Masoodi, an NC MLA from Pampore.
The NC chief earlier paid his condolences for the death of Umar Farooq’s relative, Mirwaiz Moulvi Mohammad Ahmed Shah, in Rawalpindi, Pakistan, at the home of Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in the city’s Nigeen neighborhood.

According to Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, he was placed under house arrest and was unable to attend a planned memorial service for his deceased relative.
He said in a statement that the event would be held at the family’s ancestral home, Mirwaiz Manzil Rajouri Kadal, and would be followed by an absentee prayer at the Central Jamia Masjid Srinagar.
According to Mirwaiz, the government “locked down the central Jamia Masjid, not allowing the absentia funeral prayer” in addition to closing the revered Mirwaiz Manzil at Rajouri Kadal here.
“Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha’s frequent claims of creating a ‘Naya Kashmir’ are hollow when a basic human right to condole collectively is suppressed and religious rites for the deceased are banned,” he said, casting doubt on the claims.
