Srinagar, Oct 31: On Wednesday, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed his expectations for the re-establishment of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) as a state and pledged to fight for the restoration of its identity and dignity, which he said was essential for the region’s citizens’ well-being.
Speaking at a civil society-sponsored event at Srinagar’s Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC), Abdullah expressed hope that Jammu and Kashmir’s existing status as a Union Territory (UT) will not continue permanently. He expressed a firm conviction that J&K’s return to statehood may occur quickly, giving its citizens a stronger feeling of identity and respect.
Abdullah remarked, “It is after a long time that the people’s government has returned,” alluding to the difficulties the area has encountered recently. He compared his current position as chief minister to his prior one, pointing out the substantial change in the political and social landscape. Although he acknowledged the significance of government initiatives to fulfill fundamental public requirements like jobs, water, roads, and electricity, he maintained that these tangible advancements would not be enough on their own without guaranteeing the dignity and respect of the populace.
