In 2024, Srinagar police took strong action against drugs. They registered 94 cases under the NDPS Act and seized 1.7 kg of brown sugar, 2.83 kg of crystal meth, several psychotropic drugs, and properties worth Rs 4.5 crore. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Imtiyaz Hussain shared these details.
The police arrested 156 people, launched 46 major cases, and detained 26 known drug dealers. They also seized seven vehicles and seven houses linked to drug crimes.
The SSP stressed that fighting drugs is not just a police issue but a community problem. Everyone needs to work together to protect young people from drugs. He compared this fight to the region’s struggle against terrorism, which required combined efforts from security forces, the government, and the public.
The police asked the public to report any drug activities using their helpline. They assured strict action against those spreading drugs. The SSP encouraged families of addicts to seek help from rehabilitation centers, viewing addicts as victims needing treatment, while treating traffickers as criminals.
There has been less cross-border drug trafficking, but the police remain alert to trace any drugs back to their source. The SSP emphasized that their fight against drugs will continue with determination, aiming to make Srinagar a drug-free city.
